The Best Breakfasts to Cure Your Hangover in Minneapolis - @PickyFoodie

These are her MPLS Hangover Cures (a.k.a. Breakfasts).

Minneapolis is one of those cities that has always flown under the radar. Across the country Minneapolis means frostbitten fingertips, funny accents, snowy streets, and old-school Mid-Western values. But there’s so much more to the city than cold winters and Lutheran churches. From amazingly diverse restaurants and world-class art museums, to incredible music venues and beautiful lakes a few miles from downtown.

If you like to sip on delicious craft cocktails – who doesn’t? – or have beer on the brain 24/7, you’ll love Minneapolis even more. Over the past few years, the number of craft breweries and distilleries has exploded. My favorite is Tattersall Distillery, but there are so many other great spots to check out, like Norseman Distillery, Dangerous Man Brewing, Du Nord Distillery, Indeed Brewing, Fair State Brewing Co-Op, and Able Seedhouse + Brewery. The possibilities are as endless as your imagination, and these places are hands-down better than any bar.

The Bad Waitress - 2 E 26th St

So last night you got your fill, and it’s 11AM and you’re in need of some food to knock that headache away. Let’s start with a diner, because let’s be honest, diner food is always good to you when your heart is pounding in your temples and your mouth is desert dry.

I like The Bad Waitress on Eat Street for a few reasons. One, you have very little interaction with the staff – as you fill out what you want on a piece of paper, pay, sit, eat, and leave. When you had a late night, aren’t feeling so hot, and want to gorge on pancakes in peace – this is the ultimate. Plus, they have bloody marys made with sake for just $5. Win, win, win.

TRUCE - 120 N 1st Ave & 1428 W 32nd St

Not a diner person? No worries, my next go-to spot for a speedy hangover recovery is Truce – a fresh pressed juice shop in both Uptown and the North Loop. Get some protein, fruit, and greens with their ‘Green’ acai bowl and maybe pick up a charcoal lemonade or ‘AMP’ juice to go, because, why not?

Café Alma - 528 University Ave SE

My last recommendation is for when you’re only very slightly hungover and armed with a craving for something more sophisticated. Café Alma is on the outskirts of the University of Minnesota’s campus (known as Dinkytown) and has impeccable food for both morning and lunch, to stay or to go. Cappuccinos? Check. Poultry bone broth? Check. Fried egg sandwiches, toasted oat oatmeal, macaroni and cheese? Check, check, check. House-made croissants and galettes, fresh juices, winter salads with squash? You get the picture.

So, next time you think of taking a trip to Minneapolis, I hope you you picture yourself lounging at an award-winning distillery instead of shivering in a parka in the arctic tundra.
